Wheeling University Foundation, Inc. has established the Fr. James O’Brien, S.J. Endowed Scholarship to provide a perpetual source of financial support for student scholarships at the University. The Father James O’Brien S.J. Scholarships are an umbrella name for endowed gifts made to the Foundation. Donors have naming rights to any endowed scholarship of $50,000 or more. Donors can establish scholarships through donations, testamentary bequests, or other gifts to the newly formed Wheeling University Foundation, Inc. All gifts made to the Father James O’Brien S.J. Endowed Scholarships, no matter the amount, are important. Each donor can make a gift in memory or in honor of a person or a classmate.

Father James O’Brien S.J. came to Wheeling College in August of 1962 and served Wheeling University until his death in December of 2022. This Jesuit priest instilled in students his love of service and, throughout his life showed, by his example, the true meaning of servant leadership. Father O’Brien continues to be an inspiration to alumni and the University community to live a life of service.

The Center was founded to offer and support service learning opportunities for the students, faculty, and staff of Wheeling University.
Father David Griffin, O.S.B. serves as the Director of the Center.
